Welcome to New Dawning. My name is Dawn and I hope my creations inspire you as much as they do me. My goal with everything created is to put a smile on your face.

I have always loved working with my hands and creating Art. At a very young age, I was always drawing and painting. I always knew that I wanted to be an Artist. In college my eyes were opened up to all the possibilities for creating. I earned a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts. I have dabbled in jewelry to making stained glass to pottery, you name it and I’ve probably tried it. I believe all of these mediums are the tools that guide me to the World of Whimsy at New Dawning. I am constantly coming up with fresh ideas. I’ve never been tested, but I’m pretty sure I suffer from ADD. Oh well, I love it. What better way to spend your day then hopping around from project to project and making cool stuff!

I specialize in handpainted pottery and small furnishings. Bright colors and whimsical motifs decorate all of the pieces. Words of inspiration are written on pieces to bring a smile or just remind us that sometimes it’s the little things that make us all feel good.

Most of the pieces are made at my studio in Greensboro, North Carolina. They are handbuilt pottery pieces and a few are made from ceramic molds. Designs are drawn onto bisque pieces and then painted in bright colors with swirls and polka dots added on for accents. Before the pieces are glazed and fired, simple but happy messages are written on the pottery, for example: “Live, Laugh, Love”, “Enjoy the Dance of Life” and “Be the Star You Are”. Wooden pieces have the same whimsical feel, but with a different process. All of the wooden pieces are painted with acrylic paints and sealed with a polyacrylic. Remember no two pieces are exactly alike, thus ensuring the uniqueness of each individual creation. Hearts, stars, dragonflies and ladybugs are my favorite designs, but be sure to check out my website for the “What’s NEW” section. This section is devoted to seasonal creations and limited edition pieces.

Of course I couldn’t do all this work alone. I do have to sleep sometime! There is my wonderful husband, Jay Robinson, who accompanies me to all the shows. (Be sure to review our Craft Show calendar for the rest of the year) I have a wonderful staff of artists and talented people that help with every phase of the creative process (and keep me on my toes!).

I appreciate your spending some time here at the site. Please email me and share your comments. You’ll also be receiving my mailing from time to time on featured items. Thanks and have a creative day!
